Remember to wring the mop thoroughly so it is only slightly damp, as excess water can damage hardwood. Always wipe up any standing moisture immediately.

Prompt attention to spills is crucial for hardwood floors. Wipe up any spills immediately with a clean, dry, soft cloth to prevent moisture from penetrating the wood and causing stains or warping. For stubborn spots, use a small amount of a pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner on a soft cloth, working from the outside of the stain inwards. Avoid harsh chemicals as these can strip the finish or leave a dull residue. Always test any new cleaning product in an inconspicuous area first.

Protecting your hardwood floor starts with preventative measures. Place entryway mats at all exterior doors to trap dirt and moisture before it's tracked inside. Consider a "no shoes" policy inside your home to prevent scratches from abrasive particles and high heels. Use felt pads or furniture protectors under all furniture legs, especially on chairs and tables that are frequently moved. Maintain consistent indoor humidity levels to prevent wood from expanding or contracting excessively.
